To ensure a good finish, it is very important to prepare the surface properly. The prepared surface must…
Be free of dust, foreign particles oil and grease, to avoid the new covering coming up or chipping off.
Have open pores, to ensure the paint being applied adheres firmly to the surface.
PREPARING THE SURFACE USING MACHINERY
The best option for treating the surface will depend on its current state. At Abellán Painters, we offer different solutions for preparing existing surfaces:
Sanding involves eroding the surface of the concrete to removed softer parts and ridges. It is used to open the pores of flat surfaces that are not sufficiently porous or rough.
We use low-power machinery, with a rotating plate and mineral abrasive discs.
We plane the surface using a rotary machine with one or several diamond disks attached to it, to achieve the desired level of abrasion. This can be used to:
Prepare surfaces for coverings with a low thickness.
Remove existing paint.
Open the pores in surfaces made of polished concrete.
This involves us blasting the surface using steel particles. This way, we achieve an open-pore texture, with the required degree of uniform irregularity. Abrasive blasting is a system we use before applying different types of surface materials.
SThis involves using a mill, a machine with a rotary drum with steel segments that destroy the surface of the concrete. We use this system when we are planning to apply a surface covering that is more than 3 mm thick. We use the mill for:
Treating resistant, contaminated or extremely irregular concrete.
